Edward Little strikes first, finishes off Lewiston

... Edward Little plated six runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth before holding off Lewiston's late charge for a 9-3 victory in a Class A North contest.

"It's just always a good game with Lewiston," EL senior Kylie Bureau said. "You always want to bring your best, and we as a team really did that today."

Bureau was a force in all three phases for the still-undefeated Red Eddies (5-0), beginning with her work in the circle as EL's starting pitcher. After walking the second Lewiston (4-2) batter of the game, Bureau didn't allow another baserunner until the fourth, and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Edward Little powers past Mt. Ararat

...EL improved to 11-4 and sits in third place in the standings, while No. 5 Mt. Ararat is 9-4, having dropped three of its last four games after an 8-1 start.

Leading 2-1 in the seventh, Red Eddies leadoff hitter Kylie Bureau turned on a Molly Temple offering, sending the ball inches over the left-center field fence for a 3-1 lead.

Later in the frame, birthday girl Emily Lashua followed suit, with her three-run home run clinching it.

“(The home run) took pressure off of us in the field in the seventh inning,” said Lashua, who was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, a run scored and three RBIs. “I was in a slump, so that home run felt good. And to beat a good team like Mt. Ararat allows us to move forward.”

Edward Little holds on against Lewiston

...Trailing 3-0 entering the top of the seventh, Lewiston was able to pull within one thanks to two Red Eddies errors, but shortstop Taylor Depot got to a grounder and made the connection with first baseman Caleigh Copland for the final out in a 3-2 Class A North softball victory at Sweetser Field.

"Why not make it exciting for the crowd here, right?" EL coach Elaine Derosby said, tongue-in-cheek.

Jordyn Rubin led off the game with a double, but EL starting pitcher Kylie Bureau kept the Blue Devils (11-5) mostly quiet after that, allowing no more than one hit in any inning until the seventh.
