Camden Hills returns to Class A state title game
The Windjammers defeat Bangor, 3-1, in the North regional final.

...Camden Hills will play Scarborough for the state title at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Hampden Academy.

“These girls love to score goals,” said Camden Hills Coach Meredith Messer after her team beat Bangor for the second time this season. “We’ve got a lot of girls who can score goals and one of the best attributes of this team is they are unselfish. They get the ball to whoever is open when we’re attacking, and they stay very calm.”

The Windjammers have 103 goals in 17 games.

“It’s tough to get things going against (Camden Hills),” Bangor Coach Joe Johnson said. “You have to defend the whole field, (and) they pass and possess the ball very well.”

State-bound again: Camden Hills tops rival Bangor for Class A North crown
Kelly, Roy, Heidorn notch goals as host Windjammers beat Rams 3-1

ROCKPORT — The incredible Camden Hills offense, led by the topnotch, record-setting play of sophomore striker Kristina Kelly, has been lauded all season,

However, for the top-ranked, defending state champion Windjammer girls soccer squad on Wednesday, Nov. 1 — facing No. 3 Bangor for the Class A North crown at Don Palmer Field — it was the hosts' defense that put the winds at their collective backs.

And, ultimately, helped the Windjammers sail to their second regional title in three seasons.

The Windjammers and Rams were knotted 1-1 at halftime, but Camden Hills held Bangor without a shot over the final 40 minutes — and pumped in a pair of insurance goals for good measure — as the hosts took one more step toward their goal of back-to-back state crowns with an impressive 3-1 victory.

Video and link to more photos from this game will appear later with this story.

With the win, Camden Hills (17-0-1 overall) moves onto the state Class A championship game, to be played on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Hampden Academy.
