Brunswick girl's soccer edges Bangor, 1-0

BANGOR - A late game tally from Lea Scrapchansky was enough for Brunswick girls soccer to overcome Bangor.

Bangor had a few chances to score in the final ten minutes, but ultimately fell short.

"That is soccer sometimes it goes in and sometimes it doesn't. I really couldn't think of anything to do better. Except maybe defend that last possession. But those are the breaks you get and that happens,"

Late goal lifts Brunswick girls soccer team past Bangor

...Brunswick improved to 5-0 while Bangor fell to 2-1-1. Brunswick has allowed only one goal this season.

“I wanted to win so badly,” said Scrapchansky, who curled a 13-yard left-footed shot from the left side of the penalty area over the head of Bangor goalie Alexis LeBreton and saw it glance in off the crossbar.

“I took a pass from one of my teammates, dribbled through a couple of defenders and I saw the goal open. I noticed that the goalie wasn’t at the near post,” said Scrapchansky, who is averaging a goal a game and had a game-high eight shot attempts. “She wasn’t tall enough to reach it so I shot it right under the crossbar.”

Brunswick shuts out Morse, 1-0
Lea Scrapchansky's goal in the second half lifts the unbeaten Dragons to victory.

...“It was 1-nil, but we dominated,” said Brunswick Coach Martyn Davison.

The Dragons (6-0) held a 24-3 edge in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks, as much of the game was played on the Morse side of the midfield stripe.

“Our kids played great until that final third (of the field),” Davidson said. “Our finishing was weak today, so we need to work on that a little bit, put some extra time in.”

Brunswick (6-0), ranked second behind defending regional champion Camden Hills in Class A North, has outscored its first six opponents by a 20-1 margin.

Unbeaten Brunswick boxes out Edward Little, 4-0

...The first goal came five minutes later, when the Dragons took advantage of friendly bounce off a failed Edward Little (4-6-1) clear. Anna Kousky pounced on the ball at the top of the box and looped a shot over the head of Depot.

"The first 10 minutes I thought we were struggling, but once we got used to it, got the goal, settled us down," Brunswick coach Martyn Davidson said.

Brunswick made it 2-0 seven minutes later. Maeve Arthur's shot from the left was deflected away by Depot, but Marley Groat was there on the right side to blast the rebound in.

"That's always one of the things we talk about, getting to the ball first. And we just always try our hardest, especially on a field like this where it's just kind of unpredictable," Arthur said.
