Lisbon blanks Mt. Abram, 3-0

...After making changes to best suit their strengths, the Greyhounds found the back of the net three times, earning their first win of the season by blanking Mt. Abram, 3-0 in Mountain Valley Conference action Thursday.

“I made some adjustments, we moved some people around because we were finding that our middies were playing back on defense and it made our midfield so wide open,” Lisbon coach Jen Perron said. “Some of the girls had played defense before so they naturally wanted to stay back. We made those adjustments today and I think it worked out all right.”

Those changes paid dividends early on for the Greyhounds, who fired four shots on goal within the first seven minutes at Mt. Abram goalie Kiley Holt. At the 30:26 mark, Lisbon’s Kiley Merritt charged the net with the ball before slipping it to Giana Russo for a goal.

Lisbon figures out Wiscasset

Four times, the Greyhounds were whistled for offsides in the early going. Then Lisbon figured out the strategy, and took advantage, reeling off a 3-1 win and a third consecutive victory.

“We understood defensively what they were doing and knew we had to watch that,” first-year Lisbon coach Jenniffer Perron said after her Greyhounds improved to 3-2. “It was the first time they had seen the trap and they figured it out. We will see the offsides trap again.”

Wiscasset (4-1), which dropped its first game this season, seemed to be a step behind Lisbon throughout the first half.

“We weren’t winning 50-50 balls, and their speed was very good,” said Wiscasset coach Duane Goud, whose Wolverines visit Oak Hill on Monday at 4 p.m.

Lisbon, Carrabec finish tied at 1-1

...The last three games, the Lisbon's offense had carried a heavy load, outscoring its opponents 12-3 while going 3-0.

“We couldn’t put more than one in today,” Lisbon coach Jenniffer Perron said. “But our defense played really well, handling the pressure put on by Carrabec.”

Lisbon (3-2-1) came out looking to attack the Carrabec defense early. A near-miss on a header by Lisbon’s Sophie DiGregorio and a nice save by Carrabec’s netminder Ashley Cates on a shot by Emma Houle kept the Greyhounds off the board.
