Panthers, Shipbuilders split season-openers in pitch double-dip
Starr, Horovitz, Post, Smeltzer tally goals for host Medomak Valley

WALDOBORO — While the blustery, chilly conditions presented a midseason feel on the pitch, it was indeed the first games of the regular season — on the first day of September — for the Medomak Valley soccer teams, who hosted Morse in a doubleheader.

Each school came away with a victory on the afternoon, as the Panther boys prowled to a 3-0 win and the Shipbuilders girls netted a 2-1 victory on Friday.

Early-season resignation thrusts Morrill into Panther varsity coaching role
Veteran coach Larry Jensen resigned Sept. 8 for 'personal reasons'

...After the Panthers’ 3-1 home loss to neighboring rival Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston on Sept. 7, varsity coach Larry Jensen submitted his resignation to athletic director Matt Lash.

Jensen, a longtime teacher at MVHS who coached a handful of varsity and subvarsity Panther athletic teams over the decades, guided the Panther girls varsity soccer squad six seasons.

He said he submitted his resignation for "personal reasons."

Lash said Jensen submitted his resignation on Friday, Sept. 8, but the athletic director declined to comment further on the matter.

Since Jensen's departure, varsity assistant Brianna Morrill has been tabbed as the interim varsity coach for the remainder of this season. Scott Hastings and Darryl Townsend also are varsity assistants to Morrill.
