Despite losing key pieces, Orono girls soccer aims for a third straight state title

ORONO - There are plenty of good girls soccer teams around Maine, but there aren't many great programs like Orono. The Red Riots have won two straight Class C state titles. But after losing a big and talented senior class, Orono's chance at a three-peat could be in jeopardy.

"We lost eight seniors and actually among those seniors were some very very good players. So they were sort of our organizers and go to people," Orono girls soccer head coach Cid Dyjak said.

Familiar face Jenniffer Perron to lead Lisbon girls’ soccer

...“These girls that are juniors and seniors; when they were freshmen and sophomores, they played on teams that relied on one player. That’s not my philosophy, that’s not how I work," Perron said. "We have a lot of talented athletes on this team and have some kids that would be considered stars and the game should center around them, that’s not how we’re going to play."

“She’s worked us hard so far this week, but her drills are designed to work on our skills that are going to make us better,” Fisher said.

Four-year starter at goalkeeper Ali Sult graduated, and Perron knows the Greyhounds are going to need to pick up that deficit in net.

“We’re just not as strong in goal this year, but I strongly feel this team has so many athletic kids that have so much passion and knowledge of the sport that we can better last year’s record,” she said.

Foster's Girls Soccer Capsules - Class C

TRAIP
Outlook: Numbers are a tad down for the Rangers this year, even with the success of last year’s 12-win season and run to the regional semis. “Although we only have 13 active players at the moment, they have all proved that they are willing to work hard and work together to have as much, if not more, success than last season,” Cook said. ... The defense should be Traip’s anchor behind seniors Delano and Pelkey. Roberts returns for her second season in the cage. ... Marino, Andrews and Young will be the leaders offensively. ... Traip opens Thursday at home against St. Dom’s

The Times Record Girl's Soccer previews: Class C teams

Lisbon
Another new first-year coach is at Lisbon, with Jenniffer Perron replacing Brian Dube, who led the Greyhounds to a 6-4-4 mark last season, good for the No. 4 seed in Class C South. A big problem for Lisbon late in the season was the lack of scoring punch. Perron has worked hard in practice on finding some offense.
