Edward Little trio trying to get back to title game
AUBURN — At a school the size of Edward Little High School, making it onto a varsity team as a freshman normally is no easy task. But that's what Lauren Berube, Piper Norcross and Grace Beaudet did as first-year players in the Red Eddies girls' soccer program. Not only that, but the ...

Young pushing to return as Bangor chases title

BANGOR - Camden Hills had to go through the Bangor girls soccer team last year en route to the Class A state title, but it was able to do just that. The Rams were defending state champs at that point, and now enter 2017 with an early exit in their minds.

"Really they have to take in everything from last year, and it's a lot about moving on and recharging your mental ability of playing soccer and playing the sport," striker Libby Spekhardt said at the team's practice Monday. Her teammate, senior right wing Maddison Cormier, agreed with the sentiment, and said the team is focused on getting back to its peak from 2015.

PPH Previews:

For Falmouth and Kennebunk, it’s time to play with the big schools
The teams previously competed in the Class B playoffs, but now will face Class A competition in the regular season.

...As members of the Western Maine Conference, Kennebunk and Falmouth had to wait until the playoffs to get acquainted with their Class A competition. The two programs played Class B teams throughout the regular season before getting tossed into the playoff bracket with southern Maine’s biggest schools.

But this year, Kennebunk and Falmouth have joined the Southwestern Maine Activities Association – allowing them to play Class A teams throughout the regular season.

“We’d spend an obscene amount of time getting ready for teams that we didn’t see for the first two months,” said Falmouth Coach Andrew Pelletier. “We’d show up to the playoffs and have no idea what some of these teams were like.”

Foster's Girls Soccer Capsules - Class A

MARSHWOOD
Outlook: The Hawks were right on the doorstep of a regional championship last season. Now, after turning over a veteran core of seniors, Marshwood comes back without a single senior on the varsity roster. ... The Hawks also have a new coach in Williams, after Lisa Truesdale stepped down this offseason after 11 seasons. ... The true varsity experience on this team will be light, but it starts with Glidden, who will be the go-to scorer on offense. Dube’s another experienced player who returns in the midfield, along with Hasty. ... Marshwood opens at home against Gorham on Thursday.

NOBLE
Outlook: The Knights return intact and will have plenty of experience with nine seniors on the roster. ... Aleva, Sanger and Cheever will anchor the defense, which is typically a strength for Noble. The Mayotte sisters will likely alternate in goal, at least to start the season. ... Lessard has been moved from midfield to forward to bolster the attack. Silver, Sprague and Dyer will also be asked to contribute offensively. ... Noble opens at home Thursday against Massabesic.

The Times Record Girl's Soccer previews: Class A teams

Brunswick
Martyn Davison’s Dragons had another solid campaign last year, going 11-3 and heading to the postseason as the No. 3 seed in Class A North. Against Messalonskee in the quarters, Brunswick trailed 3-0 midway through the second half. What followed was thrilling — a four-goal rally for a stunning 4-3 win in overtime.

Mt. Ararat
First-year coach Chad Kirk takes over for longtime leader Sam Chard. Mt. Ararat, which opens its schedule at Skowhegan on Friday (3:30 p.m.), seems solid on defense and in the midfield, led by returning seniors Shannon Harty and Chloe Beattie. Up front, senior Ryley Leech and junior Jessica Cloutier will look to fill the net, while junior midfielder Zoe Pinkham and sophomore midfielder Reese Turcotte should provide depth, along with senior defender Katelyn Hutch.
