Changing of the guard
Former Mt. Ararat grad takes over Eagles girls’ soccer team

...“He’s had a lot of positive comments and has been very encouraging towards the players. He’s been giving us drills to improve our skills for this season,” said senior Shannon Harty. “ We want to win and so does he.”

It also works both ways, the coach has a clean slate with the players.

“It’s very exciting, it’s sometimes an unknown when you get a new coach, but this gives us a fresh start and we’re open to his energy. I had heard nothing but positive things about him so we’re really looking forward to the new season,” said senior Chloe Beattie. “His first impressions have been good. He’s very direct and up front with us. He tells us what he wants and you can’t help but respect that. As a player you want that kind of relationship with your coach.”

“I love the youth for this upcoming season. I have a lot of feeder programs that come into our program. I have something like 20 freshmen coming in and I believe nine of them played together on one Seacoast team,” Kirk said. “A lot of these girls that are incoming freshmen this year played for me with the Junior Mariners at Seacoast, so even though it’s been awhile, there is still some familiarity.”

Camden Hills, Bangor appear on collision course in quest for ‘A’ North girls soccer title

...“Nothing is guaranteed. We’re going to be young but we’re going to be very good. We’re very skilled,” said Johnson.

“Camden Hills is a possession team. They’re well-coached and well-disciplined,” said Johnson.

Camden Hills went 17-1 a year ago and Bangor wound up 16-1 and each team’s loss came against the other.

“I’ve never had a midfield this good before,” said Johnson, who is in his 11th year at Bangor and has led the Rams to four state championship game appearances in the last six seasons with victories in 2011 and 2015.
