Ready, set, go — Wiscasset Speedway readies to launch season
A spring, summer and fall of racing begins on April 21

WISCASSET — Despite the effort of winter to hold its grip on the Northeast, spring is, in fact, upon us. Wiscasset Speedway again is ready to embark on a busy and diverse schedule beginning with Group 1 opening day slated to hit the track on Saturday, April 21 at 2 p.m.

Engines will roar to life, fans will don their favorite racing attire and familiar sounds, smells and energy will fill the air. A new racing season will take the green flag. Fans and drivers have come to expect facility upgrades and a wide array of motorsports entertainment from owners Richard and Vanessa Jordan.

Wiscasset Speedway's 2018 season will be no different. A lighting system and network upgrade, along with further grandstand side renovations will continue the track's multi-year modernization project.

Dave Farrington Jr. opens Wiscasset Speedway season with Pro Stock win
Norris earns 1st career win; Golding holds off Pouliot.

... His first Late Model win came at Wiscasset in 2013.

“This is where we first got started running Pro Stocks back in 2009, and we really struggled back then trying to get used to a full-sized car,” Farrington said. “I love coming here. It’s a lot of fun. We’ve had quite a bit of success here over the last four or five years. … I wanted to come here and have some fun, and I think it all paid off.”

Since that summer of 2009, Farrington has made a habit of competing in races and at tracks that he favors. In 2011 he ran full-time with the American-Canadian Tour, and three years later he committed to a full season at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, where he won the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track championship. Last season, he ran the full Pro All Stars Series schedule, finishing sixth in the final standings.

Will Collins wins Late Model feature at Wiscasset Speedway
2015 champion earns opening day victory.

...Erskine, of Farmington, finished second with Sidney’s Chris Thorne third. Brothers Ryan St. Clair and Josh St. Clair finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Collins did one thing it seemed nobody else in the 21-car field could manage. He utilized the outside groove, passing the four-time champion Thorne there for the lead on lap 16.

“My car definitely didn’t like the outside,” Thorne said. “Will was about the only one I could see going on the outside.”
