Gerry notches first Super Late Model win at Oxford

OXFORD — Veteran short track driver Curtis Gerry hadn't really planned on competing at Oxford Plains Speedway last weekend. Yet if you ask him about it today, he'll tell you he's elated the decision was made to go. Gerry, of Waterboro, a weekly racer at Andy Cusack's Beech Ridge Moto...

Treadwell back in Victory Lane at Oxford

Kyle Treadwell didn't have quite what one might call a sensational first half of the 2016 racing season. Despite his usual thorough preparations last winter, on-track performance wasn't quite up to par at either his home track of Oxford or at Beech Ridge, where he also competed. His...

Russell striving for more at Oxford

... For second-year Street Stock driver Jordan Russell, fitting into that mix hasn't been terribly difficult. The longtime race fan jumped in with both feet in 2015, starting his career against a host of top talent.

"My entrance into racing came about in an unusual way,” Russell said. “I had a Harley Davidson that I didn't want any more, and Justin Karkos wanted to get his hands on one. He offered me his 2014 Wildcat car for the bike, so we made the deal. All of a sudden, I owned a decent race car.

“I never really thought I had the ability or money to go racing, which is why I had never done it before. I had always attended the races at Oxford, rooting for my friend Josh Childs. My dad used to take me to the races often. He was a big Jeff Taylor fan, so we pulled for him back when he raced full-time.”

Oxford Plains Speedway: Oxford 250 Sun Aug 21

Oxford Plains Speedway: Oxford 250

Fort Kent’s Austin Theriault, who is running third in the K and N Pro Series East tour points standings, has entered the 43rd annual Oxford 250 scheduled for Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway.

There isn’t another K and N Series race until the Kevin Whitaker 140 at Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina on Sept. 5.

Theriault didn’t run the 250 last year because he had a 13-race deal with Brad Keselowski Racing in the Camping World Truck Series.

He had a string of four top-four finishes in the Oxford 250 culminating in his second-place finish behind Morrill’s Travis Benjamin in 2014

Brackett to run 250 for Aspire Higher team

OXFORD — Three-time Oxford Plains Speedway champion Tim Brackett will partner with Oxford Hills Middle School's Aspire Higher race team for next weekend's 43rd annual HP Hood Oxford 250.

Brackett, who won titles at the track in 2005, 2010 and 2015, is currently leading the Super Late Model point standings. This opportunity with the students of OHMS allows him to eliminate the risk of damage to the car he uses on a weekly basis, while still putting him in a competitive ride for the race he'd love to win.

“The kids and everybody involved with our program are more than excited about this deal,” Aspire higher program director Kyle Morey said. “Tim is obviously a master at Oxford. We had a test session together a few days ago, and he was very impressed with our car. I think with him behind the wheel we'll have a decent chance at a solid finish in the 250.”
