Hampden driver wins crash-marred race at Speedway 95

HERMON, Maine — Hampden’s Travis Beale survived five restarts in a crash-marred 20-lap RoadRunner feature at Speedway 95 Wednesday night, and had to hold off a persistent William McCullough of Kenduskeag to pull off the win.

McCullough kept his car right on Beale’s bumper for the entire distance, but was never able to gain the lead, despite opportunities on each restart following a red flag. The red flag flew each time for multiple car wrecks, reducing the 42-car starting field to just 19 running at the finish.

Tatro edges Kimball to claim Sportsman feature at Speedway 95

HERMON, Maine — It began with an entertaining 200-yard sprint across the infield by an irate driver and ended with a thrilling finish involving two close friends.

Despite low car counts, there was plenty of action at Hermon’s Speedway 95 Saturday night.

The finale saw Levant’s Shane Tatro squeeze past buddy Steve Kimball on the outside with two laps remaining to collect his sixth win of the season in the Sportsman class.

Tatro crossed the finish line just 1½ car-lengths in front of Holden’s Kimball, who was formerly known as Steve Moulton.

Early in the 2015 stock car season, Speedway 95’s top division, the Late Model Class, was getting only five cars on race night. It was a major headache for track owner Del Merritt. The Late Models gradually have rebounded but the overall car counts on Saturday nights remain an area ...
