Snowmobile Drag Racing at Northern Maine Fairgrounds Saturday

The sound of high performance snowmobile engines is coming to the Northern Maine Fairgrounds Saturday October 22 at 3 pm. Racers will notice that the truck and tractor pulling surface has been extended into the fourth turn area to allow snowmobile racers more room to slow down their sleds after making a run.

In conversations with Rick Guerrette of Presque Isle, one of the race organizers, the extended track will allow the grass drags to run at the Fairgrounds and have a safe runoff area. The race length will be a full 400 feet as a results of the modifications.

Careers in Motorsports at Presque Isle High School

... For the second year in a row I was invited to present ideas about how a high school student might pursue a career in motorsports. On display for the presentation was the #28 Ford Fusion of Kirk Thibeau of Fort Fairfield and a Senior Champ racing kart from Spud Speedway.

Over 50 young people expressed an interest in seeing what might be available to them in the motorsports arena. I think many were surprised by the magnitude of career choices available. Most of the careers were not based in the Aroostook County area thus involving a move to pursue their dream.

Deeply Honored By Maine Press Association

...Online Daily/Weekend Sports Blogger 2016

Sunday nights have not been the same for me for the last couple years since I began blogging for the Bangor Daily News network. Many times posts were finished in the early Monday morning hours. Going to work on Monday can be interesting to say the least.

Saturday evening I was named the Maine press Association’s Online Daily/Weekend Sports blogger for 2016 with my story about Amanda and Geoffrey Eason late last year. You may recall Woodland native, Amanda, a Marine, was wounded in Afghanistan in 2010 and received the Purple Heart. She married Geoffrey Eason who worked for several seasons with Stevenson Motorsports in North Carolina.

St. John Valley Native Erny Levesque Selected for Hall of Fame

... Erny “The Flying Frenchman” Levesque, St. David, will be part of the Class of 2017 along with five other prominent racing legends to the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame in April 2017. Inducted with Levesque will be Bill Bailey, Butch Craig, Tom Curley, Mike Maietta, and Dave Wilcox.

I visited Erny at his St. John Valley home on Friday. The eighty-eight year old welcomed me in with a huge smile. It was different being in his home without his wife of 63 years being present. Edwina died in her sleep at their home on October 8, 2016.

Erny shared, “On the morning of the seventh, I was working on my tractor in the garage. I came in and checked on her and she was laying on her bed dressed for the day. ‘You’re not feeling good are you’, he asked.

Motorsports Musings While Viewing the SuperMoon

I am cognizant that in light of all that has gone on this week in politics and reactions to the results that one thing remains, there are some incredible natural phenomenon that trump human ventures. How neat it is indeed that friends all around the United States can agree that the moon is putting on quite a show for all to see. Thank you Lord.
