Fort Kent driver notches second place finish in race

Fort Kent’s Austin Theriault posted his best finish of the season in the K and N Pro Series East auto racing circuit on Saturday night as he wound up second behind Justin Haley in the NAPA 150 at the Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio.

The 22-year-old Theriault, who is in his first season in the series, qualified third.

Fort Kent driver hoping to keep climbing the NASCAR ladder

Fort Kent native Austin Theriault acknowledges that it isn’t easy to get a full-time ride in a NASCAR series.

“It’s about building relationships with team owners and having them trust you to go out and find sponsors or giving them a reason to go out and help you with sponsors and marketing stuff,” Theriault said. “You hope somebody takes a liking to you and believes in you.”

Theriault has already compiled an impressive resume in his 22 years with three races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, 10 in the Camping World Truck Series and is now racing in the K and N Pro Series East circuit.

Theriault lays foundation for Internship program

Fort Kent native Austin Theriault has a lot on his plate these days.

After running part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series the past two years, he's driving full-time for Hattori Racing Enterprises in 2016 chasing a championship in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

Yet despite the demands of his job, the 22-year-old still finds time for others.

One benefactor of that kindness is Lewiston native Patric Racine, who just returned from a two-week visit to the HRE race shop in Mooresville, N.C.

Fort Kent driver enters Sunday’s Oxford 250

Fort Kent’s Austin Theriault, who is running third in the K and N Pro Series East tour points standings, has entered the 43rd annual Oxford 250 scheduled for Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway.

There isn’t another K and N Series race until the Kevin Whitaker 140 at Greenville Pickens Speedway in South Carolina on Sept. 5.

Theriault didn’t run the 250 last year because he had a 13-race deal with Brad Keselowski Racing in the Camping World Truck Series.

He had a string of four top-four finishes in the Oxford 250 culminating in his second-place finish behind Morrill’s Travis Benjamin in 2014.

Theriault Homecoming At Oxford 250

Episode 119 August 21, 2016 43rd Annual HP Hood Oxford 250 Next Sunday One of the most anticipated races this year is Sunday the 28th at Oxford Plains Speedway. Fifty five entries from primarily the northeast and the Maritimes were reported as of the 18th on the Oxford 250 website

One of the most anticipated races this year is Sunday the 28th at Oxford Plains Speedway. Fifty five entries from primarily the northeast and the Maritimes were reported as of the 18th on the Oxford 250 website.

The race is a virtual who’s who in the Super Late Model ranks. Will Glen Luce become a repeat winner. Will the winner be a newcomer? All those questions will be answered late next Sunday evening. With $25,000 to win I am sure it will be exciting.

I am recruiting a couple of County guys who are making the trek, Derek Jepson from Caribou and Gary Saucier from Fort Fairfield to be my eyes in the grandstands and to get post race comments.
