York survives in PKs to reach regional final

...York senior goalie Brett Smith made the only save in PKs, as the Wildcats sealed a 1-0 victory by besting the Capers, 4-2.

“I’m just trying to get my heart rate down right now,” Martens said. “It’s not the way we drew it up and it’s not the way I envisioned the game going at all, but I’m super happy getting the result we got. (Cape Elizabeth) played a great game. We feel lucky to be moving on.”

York (14-2) moves on to its first regional championship game since 2011. The Wildcats will play at No. 1 Yarmouth on Wednesday, after the Clippers (16-0) knocked off fourth-seeded Lincoln Academy, 8-0, on Saturday.

“We didn’t play great in the first half, quite frankly, and we were able to persevere and create a lot of chances,” York senior Daniel Thurlow said. “We probably could’ve had two or three of them, but it came down to penalties and we were finally able to deliver.”
