Erskine boys soccer team parlays strong midfield play into win over Gardiner
Eagles remain unbeaten with KVAC victory over Tigers.

...“It’s mostly mindset,” Glidden said. “You’ve got to be confident driving through it, like ‘I’m going to win this. Nothing’s going to stop me.’ If you start out winning balls early, that boosts the confidence of the rest of the team. … The other team becomes almost hesitant.”

“It becomes a team mindset. If you only have one or two players with that mindset, you’re not going to be successful,” Erskine head coach Carrie Larrabee said. “It really is us, as a team, taking on that approach that we’re going to win these balls. Everybody’s got to buy onto that — you have players like Brock that really are just leaders by example, and then we as a team try to approach it as a team.

Erskine strikes in OT to edge Cony in boys soccer action
Eagles snap 3-game losing skid with dramatic play in extra time.

...Erskine improved to 7-3-1 in Class B North while Cony fell to 4-4-2 after absorbing its third straight defeat.

The goal was the second of the game for Cleaves, who tied the score at 1-1 with a goal in the second half. Cony’s Vlastimil Horak scored on a penalty kick 1:50 into the first half.

“It was a tough last three games,” Cleaves said. “We’ve all been heartbroken. We played with heart tonight to win this game. We knew this was extremely important on the season.” ... er-action/
