Bangor boy's soccer edges Camden Hills, 1-0

BANGOR - In a rematch of 2016's Class A North title game, it was Bangor who once again got the best of Camden Hills.

David Miller's goal in the first half was enough to get the job done for the Rams who move to 3-0 on the season.

...BANGOR - The Bangor boys soccer team seemed to be cruising to a 2-0 win Tuesday night against Hampden Academy, before the Broncos saw a second shot at life late in the game.

...The defending state champion Rams, already with pointworthy victories over fellow top contenders Lewiston and Camden Hills of Rockport, are now 4-0 two weeks into the season.

“For periods of time we played well and controlled the game,” said Bangor coach Garth Berenyi. “We certainly didn’t play 80 minutes the way we want to play 80 minutes and part of that is a credit to Hampden, they came out to play and they wanted to take one.

“Our guys played our game but we lost our composure at times. I thought we played a little frantic and as I told the guys at the end we’ve got to be able to play quick and under control, not quick and frantic.”

Berenyi Family and Bangor Boys Soccer Work as a Team to Continue Success

BANGOR, MAINE (WABI) - Bangor boys soccer won the state class A championship last fall. They've played many of the class A top tier teams right away this fall and they’re in first place in the north region.

Reigning Class A boys soccer champs confident, focused on improvement

...“We’ve been giving up way too many fouls,” said senior forward and captain Garth Berenyi, son of the coach. “Every time we start building momentum it seems like we give away a foul and then we have to start over.

“We take those fouls away and we’ll be very dangerous and, I think, the team to beat.”

Such a straightforward opinion isn’t confined to the Bangor locker room.

“They don’t feel like they’ve really dropped off a whole lot, so that’s pretty tough,” said Hampden coach Josh Stevens. “It’s like playing the team from last year. They move the ball so well. They have so many different weapons all over the field that they can get the field changed almost in an instant, which really puts the defense at a disadvantage.
