MDI falls to John Bapst girls tennis in playoffs

HERMON - Much like the boys, the John Bapst Crusaders girls tennis team took their No. 3 seed quite seriously headed into the playoffs against No. 6 MDI. The Trojans would find that out the hard way Thursday.

Waterville girls tennis avenges regular season loss to Erskine
Panthers sweep way into Class B North semifinals

...Cristan’s calculated risk worked. Bazakas and St. Pierre played well together, and Weston was strong in her match, helping the Purple Panthers avenge last week’s loss with a 5-0 win.

“Something wasn’t working with the team. Practice (Wednesday) we took almost a two-hour practice and figured everything out. Sofie played amazing today. I’m so proud of everyone today,” said Sammi Saulter, Waterville’s No. 1 singles player who won a close two-set match over Ellie Hodgkin.

The No. 4 seed, Waterville (11-2) will face No. 1 Camden Hills (13-0) Friday in the regional semifinals. No. 5 Erskine ends the season at 9-4.

Caribou girls, Camden Hills boys win B North tennis crowns

The Caribou High School girls tennis team captured its first regional title in seven years Tuesday, knocking off defending champion Camden Hills of Rockport 4-1 in the Class B North final held at Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness in Brunswick.

Camden Hills went on to earn a split of its two matches on the day, as the school’s defending state champion boys team won its fourth consecutive regional crown with a 4-1 victory over Waterville.

The No. 2 Caribou girls and No. 2 Camden Hills boys will advance to play in the Class B state finals at 4 p.m. Saturday at Colby College in Waterville. Caribou (15-0) will face the winner of Thursday’s B South girls match between No. 1 Greely of Cumberland Center (13-1) and No. 6 Yarmouth (9-5).

Caribou girls tennis ready for final test against Greely

CARIBOU, Me (WAGM) - The Caribou girls tennis team is back in the State Championship for the first time since 2010. The Vikings picked up a 4-1 win over Camden Hills in the Northern Regional Championship match and will be facing Greely in the state championship this Saturday at Colby College. Rene Cloukey has the story.

The Caribou Vikings are showing off the hardware. The Vikings avenged last year's semifinal loss to Camden Hills with a victory on Tuesday. Head coach John Habeeb says his team was ready to hold the plaque again.

(John Habeeb): "I wasn't surprised by the win. I think our girls team was ready for the moment and the girls played really well.

(Gabrielle Marquis): "We had everyone returning from last year plus a few. I think our whole team was hungry for the win."
