Several veterans return for Seahawks

oach Alex Arsenault has five players in mind for the three singles positions on the 2017 Boothbay Region High School girls tennis team. Four of those players are returning veterans and one is a newcomer.

Arsenault also has two other veterans returning and three newcomers who will also vie for a starting doubles position.

Seniors Madison Gaudette, Emma Rideout, Lovely Uberita and newcomer Madison Stahle, along with junior Eve Dolloff, will battle for the singles slots. "They've all been competitive with each other this spring," said Arsenault. Gaudette, Rideout and Stahle are this year’s team captains.

Defending state champion Windjammers should be back in title mix

...Outlook: The Windjammers are coming off their first state title in a handful of years and again could be in position to contend this spring, despite having lost four of seven players from last year’s ladder.

Morse and Krul will hold down singles spots, while Arau will make the jump to singles after being on first doubles last season. Heidorn, Russell and Cooper also will hold down doubles spots, with the final spot in the air.

Capetta said his players “have the interest of the team ahead of their personal interests” and “have great depth up-and-down the ladder.”

High school girls tennis
Panthers small in numbers, but solid in court talent

...Outlook: Robbins said the team has “great hopes” for Maggie Ryan, who will begin her third straight year at first singles.
“She has been improving greatly every year and as long as we can keep her challenged she will continue to do so,” the coach said. “She likes the challenge of a fast-paced game.”
The coach said Smith and Hugh “should do very well,” while Ripley “will work well with any of her partners” as she returns to the team after being out last season due to injury.
The Panthers do not possess a great deal of depth, so the veteran coach said,“We only hope to prepare them the best we can so they can play they best they can.”
