Central Aroostook, Lewiston continue cheering dominance with state titles

... The Panthers didn’t change a whole lot over the last two weeks, save for a couple of minor things.

“There was about an eight-count of dance that we changed in the first dance and about an eight-count of dance that we changed in the second dance [and] we tried cleaning up transitions,” Allen said.

In spite of having a stunt come down a tad early, Central Aroostook’s routine featured a blend of high-energy tumbling and dancing to complement its difficult stunting.

“This year was definitely different and definitely a struggle but we pulled through,” said senior captain Emilee Durost, referring to sickness and injuries that the Panthers pushed through earlier in the season.

Hermon claims ‘B’ cheering championship; Lisbon takes ‘C’

... There were very few changes to Hermon’s routine in the two weeks spanning the regional and state competitions, but the Hawks put a lot more energy into it, and they believe that proved to be the biggest factor.

“The biggest difference was just a lot of hard work the last two weeks, and confidence,” Hawks senior Emily Perley said. “We just tried to get all of our nerves out and put all our energy into that routine and nail it.”

Hermon’s routine also featured efficient tumbling and difficult stunting, along with high-energy dancing.

“We just focused on what we practiced the last week which was a lot of attitude and energy,” Hermon senior Lexi MacManus said. “It feels amazing.”

State cheering championships: Lewiston claims third straight Class A crown — WITH VIDEO

... “I have already won twice, and this is just like the icing on the cake,” Lewiston senior Alison Porter said. “Every time you win, it’s a different feeling, it gets better every time. When we hit the routine on the floor, that was such a great feeling, but then to hear our name called first, it was probably the best feeling in the world.”

Porter and fellow senior Tawni Zamrock both said the key to Lewiston’s routine is getting through the first stunts.

“We all knew it was a breeze after that,” Porter said.

State cheering: Lisbon 'back on top' of Class C — WITH VIDEO

...“The one we won two years ago, it was the first one ever for the school,” Lisbon coach Nicole Adams said. “To come back and do it again within three years is just amazing.”

To win championship No. 2, the Greyhounds had to beat Central, 70.9 to 68.2, on Saturday. The Red Devils went two spots before Lisbon, and had a routine that was clearly going to be tough to beat. Lisbon expected that.
