Class C: Central Claims the MPA State Cheering Championship

... Strout went nuts for good reason, as the Red Devils from Corinth captured their first state championship since 2014 but third title in seven years at the Cross Insurance Center.

Central won a tight four-way battle, scoring 72.7 points to edge defending champion Lisbon (71.6), Sumner of East Sullivan (70.1) and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (69.3).

“We knew regionals wasn’t our best performance,” said Strout, whose seniorless squad finished second to Mattanawcook Academy at the Class C North regional meet two weeks ago. “We knew coming in we had to beat at least one team if we wanted to come in the top two. These kids dug their heels in and went to work.

Hermon remains dominant at Class B state cheering competition

...“We want to show people what Hermon cheering’s all about and we want to prove to everybody what we can do, but, yeah, we definitely feel the nerves with everyone watching us and having their eyes on us. It’s a pretty crazy feeling.”

It may have been a crazy feeling for the Hawks, but it surely wasn’t unnerving as Hermon cruised to its eighth state championship overall and seventh in the last eight years at the Cross Insurance Center with a comfortable six-point victory over runnerup Ellsworth.

“Today’s performance is by far the best one we’ve done,” said Peirce, one of just three seniors on the 21-member Hermon roster. “We were so prepared today, we were really ready. We knew what the stakes were and we put all of our effort and motivation into this and we came out on top.”

Central wins tight battle for ‘C’ cheering state championship

Bangor knocks off Lewiston to capture first Class A cheering state championship

...“I’ve been cheering for eight years and this is the best performance I’ve seen in eight years,” said Bangor senior Olivia Heanssler. “It was amazing. We really brought it today and the fans really helped our performance.

“It didn’t matter what place we got, we wanted to hit our routine perfectly, better than we did at the regionals. And that’s what we did,” added Heanssler.

“They did the best that they could possibly do,” said elated Bangor co-coach Kate Robichaud whose 2016 Bangor team finished second. “It was a lot better than the regionals, actually. It was an unbelievable performance. They were rock solid in all of their stunts and a huge factor was all of the fans here today. We had tons of support.”

Medomak Valley cheering again third in state competition
Panthers also repeat as league, regional champions this season

BANGOR — Year after year, the Medomak Valley cheering squad confirms an important and unwavering truth: the highly-talented Panthers are the benchmark in their league and region, as well serious state championship contenders.

None of that changed for the 2017-18 season.

In fact, the Panthers, as they had so many times before, earned the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference and South Class B crowns. Next up was a bid for the coveted state championship.

Well, the opportunity came near the noon hour on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Cross Insurance Center as the Panthers put their electric routine to the test against the best of the best in Maine.
