Alpine skiing: Edward Little, Mt. Blue, and Oxford Hills still in hunt

GREENWOOD — Mt. Abram’s course took beating from four runs of high school skiing and a warm sun, but coaches Mark Cyr or Jodd Bowles don’t want to hear any excuses. It was obvious that the course was worn out when a handful of skiers took spills in the second run of the g...

Maranacook senior wins Class B Alpine title
Nathan Delmar back on top of sport after finishing short last season.

... Delmar placed first in the slalom competition, finishing with a combined time of 1:21.70. Delmar’s first run was his fastest time, finishing at 40.75 seconds.

It feels amazing,” Delmar said. “Sweeter, I think. Really having it sink in that it’s my last high school slalom race.”

As a team, the Black Bears boys Alpine team finished third overall with 112 points (50 giant slalom, 62 slalom). Fort Kent defended its Class B crown, finishing with 87 points, while Mountain Valley finished second with 94 points. The Maranacook girls Alpine team finished third overall between Tuesday and Wednesday, combining for 106 team points. Spruce Mountain (90 points) captured the Class B title — the first in school history — just edging out second place Yarmouth (91 points).

Alpine skiing: Falmouth boys, Camden Hills girls win Class A state titles
Cheverus' Annesley Black and Greely's Axel Lindsay claim individual slalom titles.

...“No way,” he told Scott. “Take that right out of your head right now.”

Scott already knew all about Falmouth’s infamous 2012 collapse at the state meet because his older brother was on the team that snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Scott called it the team that choked. Kimball refers to it as “the meltdown team.”

“I’ve heard stories all about it,” Scott said. “One, two, three, four, they all went down.”

So on Wednesday afternoon at Mt. Abram, Scott eased back on the throttle and maintained his standing in third place. Freshman Angus Christie finished sixth and junior Owen White was eighth to help Falmouth clinch its first Alpine title since 2013. Freshman Nick Shapiro (20th) rounded out the scoring for Falmouth, which had a two-day total of 80 points.

Alpine skiing: Spruce Mountain girls win Class B state championship; Mountain Valley boys take second (PHOTO GALLERY)

... "Words can't describe it. This year, we had some kids step up, some freshmen that came up from junior skiing that really helped us this year," Phoenix coach Bill Acritelli said. "When we had a kid disqualify, the rest stepped up. It was a real team effort today."

Fort Kent beat out Mountain Valley to claim the Boys Class B state championship.

After finishing third in her first run at 46.71 seconds, Acritelli ran a consistent second heat to finish with a meet-best combined time of 1:33.77.

Alpine skiing: Edward Little's Beliveau, Oxford Hills’ Burns shine at Class A championships

GREENWOOD — Perhaps it was the texture of the snow or the unusually warm day, but whatever the explanation, skiers in the second run of the boys’ slalom race at Mt. Abram couldn’t get a grip and took their knocks on the sun-drenched course. There were numerous spills and ...

Warriors reflect on second straight alpine title

The Warriors captured another State Alpine at Black Mountain in Rumford. The team came from two points behind to claim the title. Coach Greg Voisine says the team's depth was the difference.

"We were down two, but the kids all skied together as a team. We didn't have no top three finish but we put three kids in the top ten and six in the top 20," he said.
