Sanford keeps Knights at bay

...“She did phenomenal today. She was right on,” Sanford coach Diana Walker said. “It is something that we’ve been working on in practice, but she was able to get the ball even when she didn’t draw. She just got her stick up in the air and just focused on the ball.”

Belanger’s draws contributed directly to what the Spartans (3-6) were able to do offensively. As soon as she gained possession of the ball, she instantly pushed it up the field, which put a lot of pressure on Noble’s defense to get back as quickly as it could.

“I think that controlling the draw is pretty important because whoever controls the draw gets the first run at the net,” Noble’s Kerri Fleming said. “It was good for (Belanger) and she made it harder for us. But I think we did pretty well considering they won most of the draws.”
